Here's my long-awaited guide to what to eat, where to stay, and what to do in Palm Springs!

We took a 5 day family trip to Palm Springs to celebrate Charles' 50th birthday.th birthday. I arrived without expectations and left with a heart full of new memories and a soft spot for this corner of the world. While we didn't have the opportunity to do everything on our list, I was lucky enough to gather feedback from hundreds of members of my social media community, which I've summarized here.

We took a short 3 hour direct flight from Vancouver to get to Palm Springs, which is our preferred travel route. Honestly, we will take any opportunity we can to start our vacation in the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver Airport, and this was no exception. We drove and parked our car, at which point our vacation truly began. They have the most comfortable rooms with views of the planes taking off which the kids loved, a pool, a beautiful gym and a fabulous restaurant, Globe. Order any seafood on the menu – the Chilean sea bass was amazing, as was the fish and chips. Plus, you are literally steps from your door. Completely stress-free trip.

There are so many things to do in and around Palm Springs. We stayed in Palm Desert (more on that below) and found the attractions to be really spread out. Here is a list of things to do in Palm Springs with additional notes on what we had the opportunity to enjoy.

It was highly recommended to us as a family activity and I understand why. The kids got to see all kinds of African and South American animals, including a cheetah, rhinos, zebras, and even fed a giraffe for $10 each. Go early because it's hot.

If you go to the Living Desert and have a car, you can continue along Highway 74 into the mountains to experience what is called the switchback. It's an extremely windy path which is really great to follow and there is a lookout at the top where you can see the valley. If you don't want to spend money on taking the tram, this is a great alternative.

We couldn't go here, but we will next time. It was a bit tacky looking, but apparently it was a riot for the kids. boomers that FFamily fun center with mini golf, go karts, arcade games, batting cages, bumper boats and a rock wall.

Here is a summary of the top recommended hikes to take in the Palm Springs area:

  • Joshua Tree
  • San Andres Canyon
  • Indian cannons
  • Staircase Canyon Hike
  • Painted Canyon Trail
  • Salvation Mountain
  • Taquitz Canyon Hike
  • bump and grind
  • Split Rock (you actually drive through a rock)

One of the most recommended things to do was Cableway. TRUE? As a Canadian, I didn't come to Palm Springs to see snow in April. I have put it on my list for the future. Apparently, it's beautiful and there's also a place to grab a bite to eat at the top. Dress warmly and wear appropriate shoes.

  • Shopping in The walk
  • Street Fair Night Market (Thursday Night)
  • sunny lands
  • Visit Date Farm (and try a date smoothie)
  • Marilyn Monroe Statue
  • Elvis Presley and Pricilla honeymoon house It's in a great neighborhood to even walk around and look at houses!
  • slide park
  • Surf Wave Park (wasn't open when we went)
  • rent bikes
  • night golf in indian wells
  • Kid's museum
  • Watch a polo match
  • Saturday Morning Outdoor Market
  • Thousand Palm Trees Oasis Reserve. A stunning and easy hike for all ages through the majestic and beautiful ancient palm trees that look like Jurassic Park.

Yes. In my humble opinion. To be honest, I was surprised at how spread out everything is in Palm Springs, and having wheels was essential to have the flexibility to take it all in.

The list was long and our time was too short. We did our best but we have to come back to face the rest!

Oh my word! One of the best breakfasts of my life. Start with the homemade cinnamon bun (or try a homemade pop tart) and don't miss the Churro Waffles. Any of the Benny's are amazing too. Great portions, amazing service…arrive early to get a spot. It is located on the second level of a commercial complex in the heart of the busy El Paseo.

This place came highly recommended. While they are known for their brunch, we went for dinner. It was quaint, with live music and a rustic but upscale atmosphere. We literally ordered one of everything on the menu (which changes daily). Highlights included the potato and leek soup, roast chicken and ribs. I would return but without children hahaha.

This place was great: built into the rock with a waterfall falling at the entrance. The drinks were amazing – I highly recommend the Pear Martini and the Peach Blossom White Cosmo. Order the Firecracker Poke Nachos as an appetizer and the Roasted Chilean Sea Bass, served with a honey-soy glaze, ginger sticky rice, baby bok choy, and coconut curry sauce. While the interior looked cozy, be sure to request a table outside for the best experience.

The food was delicious, although it was not what I would consider traditional Japanese. The Marilyn Monroe roll was delicious and the shrimp stuffed jalapenos were dynamite.

We stay in the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, and we really enjoyed our time. It was very focused on children, but has pools for all ages. If you have younger children it would be perfect. The lazy river and slides are very well done. Charles and I took advantage of the large gym they have and my favorite part was enjoying our morning coffee on the beautiful patio with wood-burning tables, surrounded by a sea of colorful snapdragons.

PS: We always book a photo session with Flytographer for every trip to capture our memories: you can use code FRAICHE50 to get $50 off a photo shoot; I highly recommend it.

Tell me what I'm missing below! I hope this is helpful to any of you traveling to Palm Springs!
